The origin of the Purple
Pride Club comes from the Georgia Tech Football Team. At Georgia
Tech, it is known as "The Black Watch Club." Awarded strictly
to GT defensive players, members of this club were awarded
a black stripe that is worn on their helmet.
Here on Martha's Vineyard, a football player may earn their
purple stripe for any of the following reasons:
(1) Top academic performance from the previous school year
(2) Top Bench Press at the team's Lift-A-Thon
(3) practice or game performance.
The coaching staff votes and awards the Purple Pride Stripe.
The Purple Pride Club is looked upon by the members of the
football team with great respect. Making the club is difficult.
As you look upon this year's team, know that those players
wearing their stripes on their helmets have worked hard to
earn them.
