Vineyard
turns it over to Mattacheese
November 1, Oak Bluffs - MV's
junior high boys had trouble with the ball, fumbling on the opening
kickoff and the 2nd play of their first possesion, both of which
resulted in scores for the Warriors from Dennis-Yarmouth. An interception
return for another score late in the 2nd half put MMS up for good
22-0. In the second half the Vineyarders played better, but couldn't
close the gap against a mature Warrior squad. MV, now with a 3-2
record, travels out to the Cape next week for a game against Nauset.

After stumbling and fumbling most of the first half, MV
found their sea legs and poured it on in the 3rd quarter, pounding
Barnstable for three scores and three extras. Luke Dunlop,
Mike Araujo, Cole Bilodeau, and Eric Bryant
all scored for the junior Vineyarders. In the entire 2nd half the
MV D was stellar - not allowing a single first down and 4 sacks,
two by Delmont Araujo from right DE. Dunlap had
an INT with a 35-yard return, Maxwell Moreis and
Delmont recovered fumbles.
MV is home next week against Mattacheese.
MV
Middlers top Whalers in last minute 91 yard drive, 14-6
October 19, Oak Bluffs - In
a truly exciting game, the MV Middle School team stopped Nantucket's
late drive on 4th and 7, then took the ball 91 yards to paydirt
on a ground attack with key 1st down runs by Cole Bilideau
and Randall Jette's nifty 40-yard cutback classic.
Bilideau scored the winner from 4 yards out on what would probably
have been the Vineyarders final chance on 3rd down with 27 seconds
to go and no timeouts to kill the clock. Bilideau ran well all day,
scoring all 14 for MV, and Alec Tattersall was
cool and steady in 4th quarter relief of injured QB Mike
Araujo. Nantucket played a brave game and looked to win
with a steady drive of their own late before a valiant stop by the
MV D held them at the Vineyard nine with 1:56 ticks and 91 big ones
to cover. A great football game by both sides and a crowd pleaser
at home on 'the Rock'. Next week, MV hosts Barnstable at home on
the 24th, while Nantucket will have to wait for a 2nd chance against
the Purple: Novermber 18th's rematch on 'the Sandbar'.
October
5 - MV 20, Wixon 6
October 5, Oak
Bluffs - Mike Araujo scored twice from the
QB position and Cole Bilideau scampered for a quick
35 yard TD to lead the Vineyard Middle Schoolers to victory. MV
was nervous at the outset, dropping the ball 4 times and giving
Wixon a 6-0 lead. A goal line stand from the MV 3 gave the purple
confidence, and just before the half Araujo led a drive that resulted
in his scoring with 30 seconds left, with Eric Bryant
adding 2 more to give MV a 8-6 halftime lead. It was all purple
and black in the 2nd, Bryant and David Cartier
leading the defense and holding Wixon scoreless. Randall
Jette also looked good carrying the ball. MV travels to
Falmouth next Wednesday.
