Ben Clark scored a pair of touchdowns and the Vineyarders defense blanked the Vikings in the final home game for head coach Donald Herman in Oak Bluffs.
Clark, a senior, ran in identical 1-yard touchdown scores in the second and third quarters to help Martha’s Vineyard improve to 5-4 in Herman’s 27th and final season with the Vineyarders. The Vineyard squad travels to Norwell next Friday for their final non-playoff game before traveling to Nantucket the following Friday for the Annual Island Cup.
Senior Jacob Cardoza got Herman and his Vineyard squad going with a 4-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter. Senior Austin Chandler added a two-point conversion rush after Clark’s first score as Martha’s Vineyard led 14-0 at halftime.
Senior Andy DiMattia and junior Luke DeBettencourt led the defense in the shutout with 10 tackles each, with DiMattia coming away with a quarterback sack.
Cardoza added a pair of interceptions on the game while running for 70 yards on offense.
