Dear Parents,

The 2016 Football Season is fast approaching. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of staff changes, upcoming pre season events and in season events.

The biggest changes this year are found in our coaching staff. Stephen McCarthy has taken over as head football coach and Devin Mara is our new cheerleading coach. While we will miss Coaches Herman, Costello and Capra, we look forward to an exciting new era! Coach McCarthy and Coach Mara are still in the process of filling their coaching teams, we will keep you posted as positions are filed. MV Touchdown Club Executive Board has had turnover as well, Terry Donahue is our new President and Meaghan Morris our new Executive Secretary. Thank you to Jack Law and Denise Lambos for all you have done for the MV Touchdown Club and continued input. Fred Fournier and Cheryll Sashin remain our Vice President and Treasurer, respectively. We are still in need of a Recording Secretary/Parent Coordinator.

Upcoming events:

Football Clinic July 25-29, ended this afternoon. The boys did a great job at this clinic. Many have also been participating in weight room and 7 v 7. Coach McCarthy has noticed a lot of improvement and is excited to see the team progress throughout the season.

Registration for fall sports is open and CLOSES on August 15th. Click on this link to register your athlete (player or cheerleader): If this is your athletes first season or is a returning junior, they also need to sign up for baseline testing (information also available from this link).

Meet the coaches night is Wednesday August, 3rd at 6:00 pm, MVRHS cafeteria.

First Annual Bowl-A-Thon, August 14, 11 am – 2 pm. Each player is responsible for obtaining sponsors, minimum $150.00. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers.

The Agricultural Fair (August 18-21) is fast approaching. John and Kira Shepherd are taking on the Tempura Booth this year. We are in need of parent volunteers for the following shifts 10-2, 2-6 and 6-10 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Please contact Cindy Flanders at to sign up for a shift.

BLITZ NIGHT August 25th – Your son/daughter will been given 20 Purple Pride Cards that he/she must sell before that night. He/she is to bring that money for those cards to the blitz night. Then he/she will be given 10 more cards to sell that evening. Prizes will be awarded for the most cards sold. There is also a money grab bag for top sellers.

On Saturday September 3rd we will be scrimmaging Georgetown at 12:00 (players/cheerleaders will be on the 7:00 am boat off island).

Our kick off banquet is Sept 7, 2016 (awaiting confirmation from high school).

Saturday November 5th will be our 21st Annual Auction. It will be held at the Holy Ghost Association in Oak Bluffs. We will have hor d’oeuvres and dinner prior to the auction. Every player/cheerleader is responsible for acquiring at least 2 items for the auction. The more items we have to auction off, means that we will be able to help purchase equipment or other needed items for the football/cheerleading teams. No item is too small or too large, we will have a silent auction and live auction. Attached are two auction forms for you to complete when you acquire your auction items. They may also be downloaded from our website. Summer is the best time to go to Island businesses, so please go get those items now.

Touchdown Club meetings are usually held the first Wednesday of the month, and are held in room 322 at the High School at 7:00 pm. However, our next meeting is Tuesday August 2nd at the home of Terry and Annemarie Donahue (the high school is closed)Our first meeting of the school year will be Wednesday Sept. 7th, right after our Kick Off Banquet.

Reminder: As parents of MV Football/Cheerleading, you are obligated to volunteer in at least two fundraising events (pursuant to By-Laws under Parent Participation).
